Matheson Supports Secure Fence Act

Washington DC-Congressman Jim Matheson today voted for legislation that requires Homeland Security officials to "prevent all unlawful entries" into the U.S. through more border surveillance and construction of more border fencing along the US-Mexico and US-Canadian borders. The measure -HR 6061- was expected to pass the House on Thursday.

"In a post 9-11 world, it's vital that we secure our borders. Law enforcement officials need to know who is arriving in our country and why," said Matheson.

Matheson notes that along with more miles of two-layered fencing and increased use of cameras, ground sensors and satellites, the bill would give Customs and Border Protection agents greater authority to stop smugglers' cars when they enter the U.S. illegally or attempt to flee authorities.
