Press Release - Approval Ratings, Budget

Woodcock noted that while Baldacci has been stating that Maine is in good financial shape, the governor has quietly asked for an advance of $12.5 million from the state's third quarter budget to help pay current Medicaid bills.
The $12.5 million order, signed September 7, follows a $24 million transfer approved earlier this summer. Administration officials have said that the funds are necessary because the state is just catching up on claims it couldn't pay earlier due to the ongoing problems with the Department of Health and Human Services' computer system.
"This is only one example of misleading the people of Maine about our current economic standing," Senator Woodcock said. "We need to restore trust in our government."
Currently serving his third term in the Maine Senate, which included one term in Republican Leadership, Senator Woodcock has worked to improve Maine's business climate and reduce government spending. A Vietnam War veteran and passionate outdoorsman, Senator Woodcock has served on the Judiciary, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and the Legal and Veterans' Affairs Committees.
