Senator Santorum Comments on Council on Foreign Relations Invitation to Ahmadinejad

Santorum outraged that Ahmadinejad was invited to speak

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today commented on a letter he sent to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) regarding the organization's reported invitation to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at a gathering in New York City this week:

"I am deeply concerned that the Council on Foreign Relations has invited President Ahmadinejad to speak. The Iranian leader has called for the elimination of a member state of the United Nations. He routinely issues statements of hate against the United States, Israel, and the Jewish people. Providing this dangerous dictator with a forum to spread his messages of hate and destruction is an outrage. This demonstrates that the CFR draws no distinction between world leaders who deserve respect and those who undermine the very values of the international system the United States seeks to uphold."
