Whitehouse Shares Real Solutions at East Providence Community Dinner
Rhode Islanders Have Joined Senate Candidate at More than 30 Community Dinners

Cranston, R.I. - Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Sheldon Whitehouse came to East Providence's Phillip Hall this evening to host an old-fashioned pasta-and-meatballs community dinner and share his ideas for real solutions in Washington.

"At community dinners all across our state, I've heard stories that I'll never forget," Whitehouse said. "I've met parents worried about their sons and daughters serving overseas in Iraq. I've heard from people who can't afford a tank of gas, or health insurance, or a college education for their children, or to provide for a secure retirement. George Bush and this Republican Congress have failed our families and our nation, and it's time for a new direction. We can change America - but first, we have to change the Senate."

For over a year, Sheldon Whitehouse has campaigned all over the state, talking with Rhode Islanders about their frustration and anger at the failures of the Bush administration and its Republican allies. He's hosted more than thirty community dinners and cookouts in every part of the state, events that have become a signature of his campaign and an opportunity for participants to share their stories about why we need change in Washington. The events are also featured in the campaign's latest television ad.

Whitehouse has called for a rapid, responsible withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. He believes all American families should have access to affordable health care, and has a plan to fix the Part D prescription drug program to lower costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices with pharmaceutical companies. His energy plan aims to make America the world's leader in energy innovation and achieve energy independence by 2020, calling for a new national commitment to energy efficiency, renewable fuels, and consumer protection. His plan to clean up Washington's culture of corruption through lobbying and earmark reform is aggressive and comprehensive. And he's pledged to work for more federal support for our kids' education, fighting to fully fund No Child Left Behind and double Pell Grants for students pursuing college.
