Meek Commemorates 9/11 in New York City
Honors Innocent Civilians and Soldiers Killed Five Years Ago In American Tragedy

Today at the World Trade Center Memorial site, Congressman Kendrick Meek grieved alongside thousands of Americans marking the five year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

"I am walking on hallowed ground. This is a place where innocent people's lives were so cruelly ended. I stand here and mourn the victims and honor their loved ones. I think of the children who attended memorial services for their fathers or mothers five-years ago and today are weeping here beside me at this site. Their lives are forever changed," said Meek.

"This city and nation stand united on this anniversary. We memorialize the dead, embrace the victim's families and honor the heroes," continued Meek.

Meek also praised the efforts of South Floridians who volunteered their time and expertise, and contributed money to aid in the recovery effort following the attacks.

"In the aftermath of those horrific events," Meek remarked, "South Floridians selflessly aided in the recovery effort."

Congressman Meek currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Homeland Security and represents the 17th Congressional District of Florida which covers parts of Miami-Dade and Broward County.
