Fitzpatrick Works to Stop Medicare Physician Payment Cuts
Preserving High Quality Care for Senior Citizens

Today, Congressman Michael G. Fitzpatrick called on Speaker Dennis J. Hastert to commit to passage of legislation in September to stop Medicare physician payment cuts that will threaten access to care for senior citizens in Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional district.

"This issue is critically important for seniors in the 8th district and their physicians. I am determined to preserve access to high quality care for current and future Medicare enrollees. Congress should not adjourn next month without taking action to prevent cuts to Medicare physician payments. For the past four years, Medicare physician payments have lagged behind increases in medical practice costs. We can and should correct that as soon as possible. These cuts don't make sense as millions of Baby Boomers begin to retire," Fitzpatrick said.
