Support For Titus Swells After Endorsement From UFCW

Press Release

United Food & Commercial Workers, Local 711, threw its support behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dina Titus today, an action that boosted union-affiliated support for Titus to more than 71,500 working men and women in Nevada.

"Having the support of so many union members plus their families will help carry us to victory on Election Day," Titus said.

With the addition of the 7,000 food and retail workers backing Titus, union support has swelled in her favor.

"She's always been on the side of union members fighting for issues like affordable health care, workers' rights and a good standard of living for working men and women," said Mike Gittings, secretary-treasurer for UFCW, Local 711. "We have every belief that Titus will fight for a better way of life for everyday Nevadans like us."

UFCW is the thirteenth union endorsement Titus has received during her campaign for governor. Earlier, Titus received the support of Nevada's teachers and firefighters. Other recent endorsements have come from the Nevada State Association of Electrical Workers, Amalgamated Transit Union, Nevada Faculty Alliance, and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Go to www.dinatitus.com for a full listing of endorsements.

"This reflects the strong grassroots support I have throughout the state," Titus said. "When you fight for working families like I have for 16 years, standing up to corporations like Wal-Mart and voting for things like funding Millennium Scholarships, importing affordable prescription drugs from Canada, and raising the minimum wage, people notice and appreciate your efforts. And I appreciate their support."
