Local Radio Show Host To Run For Congress

February 01, 2006 - Dearborn Heights resident Tony Trupiano has announced he is running for Congress to represent Michigan's 11th Congressional District, which includes Commerce, Highland, Milford, Walled Lake, a portion of Waterford, White Lake, Wixom and Wolverine Lake in the lakes area.

"I am running for Congress to restore the values and priorities important to Michigan's working families to the House of Representatives," Trupiano said.

A syndicated radio talk show host, Trupiano, a Democrat, said he hopes to face incumbent U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, a Republican, in the November general election.

"The biggest reason I am running is that Thaddeus McCotter is not representing the entire demographic makeup of this district," Trupiano said. "There are more people in this district than just big business. Things get worse and worse here in Michigan and we need somebody to do more in Congress than bring home the pork, but who will protect our jobs."

Trupiano has said that McCotter is not an ethical leader.

"We are on the brink of a fiscal and moral crisis," Trupiano said. "McCotter takes money from U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas). He takes money from the recently resigned Duke Cunningham. He goes on TV and talks about the Ten Commandments and an ethical guide. We'll you can't have it both ways. You can't take money and then say you are morally above the fray."

Robert Jackson, press secretary for McCotter, said that there would be no comment on the Trupiano campaign at this time.

Trupiano said he wants to put more in the pockets of the average family and not the accounts of special interest groups.

"Priorities such as making healthcare more affordable, strengthening our public education system, and developing incentives to create jobs here at home have been replaced by a web of scandals and a culture of corruption, led by former Majority Leader Tom DeLay and his cronies," Trupiano said. "Michigan's 11th Congressional District deserves to be represented by someone who will put their family's agenda above the agenda of lobbyists and special interests. Rest assured that as your member of Congress, I will put all of Michigan's families first with every vote I cast."
