Boehner Praises Conference Agreement to Strengthen Vocational Education Opportunities
U.S. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement after House passage of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act Conference Report (S. 250):
"Vocational education is a fundamental component of our efforts to improve education at all levels so America can continue to be competitive as our education and workforce systems evolve. This vote will keep the Perkins program strong and viable for years to come by strengthening accountability, emphasizing student achievement, improving opportunities to coordinate between secondary and postsecondary education, and ensuring the effective use of federal funds.
"I commend Representative Castle and Chairman McKeon for their leadership on this issue and for their ongoing commitment to strengthening education at all levels and in all venues. They both recognize that the drive for education reform does not have a beginning or an end - it is an ongoing process. And overwhelmingly bipartisan passage of this Perkins reauthorization is a key step in that process."
