Congressman Jeb Bradley Announces Candidacy for Third Term

CONGRESSMAN JEB BRADLEY ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR THIRD TERM

First District Congressman Jeb Bradley, who serves on the Armed Services, Budget, Veterans Affairs and Small Business Committees in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced his candidacy today for the Republican nomination.

"It has been an incredible honor to serve in Congress representing the First District of New Hampshire. During the three and one-half years I have served our state, it has been my goal to represent our values in Washington - values of common sense, frugality, limited government and freedom and independence. There are many times when Washington doesn't quite understand how we do things in New Hampshire and I have been proud to ensure that our voice is heard," said Bradley.

As a member of the Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committees, Bradley has consistently advocated for a strong national defense to protect our homeland from terrorism. Bradley worked tirelessly with Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers, our New Hampshire and Maine Congressional Delegations, our business community, and state and local leaders to prevent the closure of the Shipyard. Bradley has been a strong voice for better pay and benefits for our troops serving our country and has been a leader on veterans' issues. In both 2005 and 2006, Bradley's amendments increasing veterans' health care funding were included in the House Budget. Bradley's most recent amendment will increase veterans' health care spending by $4 billion over five years.

In Congress, Bradley has supported numerous pieces of tax relief legislation that have created millions of jobs and reduced the tax burden for individuals and small businesses. Bradley supported the "Jobs and Growth Tax Reconciliation Act of 2003" and introduced legislation to minimize the impact of the "Alternative Minimum Tax" on middle-class families. "New Hampshire has always practiced frugality. Our state pays the lowest amounts in state and local taxes and we should be practicing the same habits in Washington. I will continue to fight to keep our tax burden low and our economy strong," said Bradley.

In New Hampshire, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and Bradley has supported increasing the amount that small businesses are allowed to expense which allows small business owners to invest more money into their businesses so that they can stay competitive and hire new workers.

Congressman Bradley has worked to make healthcare more affordable and accessible.

He has been a strong advocate for community health centers and the patients they serve. Bradley has also supported lowering the cost of health care costs for small businesses by supporting legislation creating association health plans, which would allow small businesses to join together through trade associations to purchase health insurance for their workers at a lower cost. Bradley has consistently supported medical malpractice legislation that would protect the rights of patients while ensuring that malpractice claims costs do not continue to drive up the cost of healthcare and drive specialty doctors out of business.

"Since 2002, I have held 128 town meetings in every town and city throughout the First District. I hold these town meetings so that I can better reflect and serve New Hampshire in Washington. I will continue to work as hard as I can, every day I serve, to represent you with dedication and commitment to common sense solutions to the challenges our nation faces," concluded Bradley.
