CROWLEY, VACCA HOST FREE HEALTH FAIR IN PELHAM PARKWAY
US Rep. Joseph Crowley (Queens & the Bronx) and New York City Councilman James Vacca today were joined by doctors and nurses from Jacobi Medical Center, and representatives from other groups, clinics and agencies, in hosting a free health fair for Pelham Parkway residents.
Residents from nearby neighborhoods participating in the health fair had the opportunity to be tested for glaucoma, high blood pressure, and more. Participants also received information on nutrition, health care options and community facilities providing health care services.
Congressman Crowley said, "This health fair provides people in Pelham Parkway with access to health care professionals and knowledge about the care and services available to them. I thank Councilman James Vacca for joining me in holding this event that offers our community residents the critical screenings, health care services and important information they need."
Councilman James Vacca said, "We need to make sure residents of the Pelham Parkway community get needed health services, and I am glad to work with Congressman Joseph Crowley and some of our local healthcare providers to do just that."
In Congress, Rep. Crowley has secured funding for diabetes, and heart disease research targeted to minority and underserved communities to help develop new treatments for these chronic diseases.
Among the other participating groups in the health fair were the New York Fire Department, which provided fire safety tips; Metrocard Reduced Sales; the Social Security Administration; and the New York Eye Surgery Center.
