Dear Secretary Nicholson,
I again wanted to thank you for visiting the New Jersey State Veterans Home at Paramus. It was an honor to have you tour and speak at this fine facility that I am proud to represent as part of the New Jersey's Fifth District.
As you may be aware, the State of New Jersey is facing an impasse over this year's budget leading the governor to suspend all but basic government services. The Veterans Homes have been reduced to only essential staff and claims processing at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has been suspended.
During this time it is extremely important that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs do all it can to assist our veterans. We must not forget that they are vets of the United States, not the state of New Jersey.
Please let me know if there is any assistance that your office can provide to veterans during this unfortunate and unusual event. Please reply to me or my Legislative Assistant, Andrew Wimer, at (202) 225-4465. Again, thank you for your hard work on behalf of our nation's heroes."
