Many of us in the 5th District have concerns about the cost and availability of healthcare. I believe the private sector is the best provider of healthcare for American citizens, not the government. I do not support a healthcare system funded and managed by the federal government that would do little more than increase taxes and sacrifice quality care. I believe that a partnership with the private sector and our government will yield the best results in expanding healthcare coverage to more Americans. For example, Congress should adopt Association Health Plans (AHPs) that would allow small businesses and trade organizations to band together for the purpose of providing affordable health care to their employees and members . We must also address the growing problem of frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits. Frivolous lawsuits are driving up insurance premiums and forcing medical professionals out of business. In Congress, I will support meaningful medical liability reform to reduce frivolous lawsuits and help keep medical costs down for South Carolinians.
