Woodcock Responds To Governor's Address
STATEMENT FROM REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR, SENATOR CHANDLER WOODCOCK, ON STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS
"Three years ago I stood in the Statehouse and listened as Governor Baldacci gave his inaugural address. He told the people of Maine that he planned to grow the economy. He said that a tax increase was not the answer to our budget woes, and that 'when it comes to state spending, it can no longer be business as usual. The boom-and-bust cycles of state spending and growth have been a rollercoaster ride, and it's time to get off.'
"Despite the tough talk back then, the rollercoaster continues to take the people of Maine for a ride. John Baldacci has grown state government significantly. This has raised our tax burden, and it has eroded our faith in the ability of this administration to do its job and keep its word."
"Health insurance has never been more unaffordable in Maine, and our welfare roles have never been more bloated. Property taxes are increasing to the point that a revolt is underway in Auburn. And blaming the federal government for not funding our expanding programs is not leadership."
"It is indeed 'business as usual.'"
