Sen. Joe Lieberman Earns Endorsement From Planned Parenthood Federal PAC

Planned Parenthood Federal PAC announced today its endorsement of Sen. Joe Lieberman citing his commitment to policies that improve the health and protect the privacy of women and their families and his 100 percent Pro-Choice Rating by the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

"I am extremely proud to receive this endorsement from Planned Parenthood," said Lieberman. "Throughout my career I have tirelessly fought to protect women's rights. I am energized by this show of support and I look forward to being able to continue fighting to protect every woman's most basic freedom…choice."

Lieberman is an ardent defender of women's right to choose. For his entire career in the senate, he has been awarded with a 95 percent pro-choice voting record by the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). The National Right to Life Committee has given him a zero.

The senator has a long record of supporting women's rights, equality and health. As Connecticut's Attorney General, Lieberman appointed the first female deputy attorney general in Connecticut history and was one of the few state leaders at the time to adopt a sexual harassment policy. He cosponsored the Equal Rights Amendment. Throughout his Senate career he has voted against Republican attempts to eliminate a primary affirmative action program that benefits women contractors.

Also, Lieberman has been a strong supporter of targeted efforts to address women's health problems. He has supported increased funding for medical research, and cosponsored legislation to support the work of research centers examining the factors that may contribute to the spread of breast cancer. In addition, Joe Lieberman cosponsored legislation to require health plans to provide equitable coverage of contraceptive services.

Established in 1998, the Planned Parenthood Federal PAC is a nationwide, non-partisan political committee that supports pro-choice, pro-family planning candidates for federal office. The Planned Parenthood Federal PAC is part of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which is an independent, not-for-profit national organization that engages in legislative, educational, and electoral activity including lobbying and independent expenditure campaigns.

The Planned Parenthood Federal PAC is a federal political action committee for more than eighty states and local Planned Parenthood action funds across the country.
