Under Moran Amendment, Small Business Resource Center to be Located in Arlington

Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, successfully offered an amendment during full committee mark-up of the FY ‘07 Science, State, Justice and Commerce Appropriations bill that would pave the way for a small business resource center to be located in the Crystal City neighborhood of Arlington to assist small businesses adversely affected by the BRAC commission's decision to consolidate and eliminate seven million square feet of office space in Northern Virginia.

"The decision to vacate millions of square feet of leased office space in Northern Virginia by the BRAC Commission and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld was unprecedented and unwarranted," said Moran. "Despite this fact, we need to do everything possible to help the affected communities make a successful transition as the BRAC plan is implemented. This amendment should create a full-service resource center for small businesses affected by BRAC."
