Sen. Landrieu Statement on the Resignation of Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta

United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today released the following statement regarding Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta's announcement of his resignation.

Sen. Landrieu said:

"I'm sorry to see Secretary Mineta go. His wisdom and compassion made him one of Louisiana's strongest partners in the Administration following hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the devastating levee breaks that followed, and we are all grateful for his leadership.

"The Secretary is a strong, intelligent and honorable leader whose career has been one of notable firsts, having broken many barriers for Asian-Americans in government -- first as the Mayor of San Jose, then as the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee and as a Cabinet secretary under two presidents. But much more than that, he is a good friend.

"I thank him and wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on the next stage of his career of service."
