Dear Speaker Hastert and Leader Pelosi:
We are writing in support of the agricultural disaster provisions that were included during Senate consideration of H.R. 4939, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Hurricane Recovery for 2006.
We hope that the House conferees will accept the inclusion of these provisions designed to provide assistance to crop and livestock producers who suffered losses as a result of the multitude of natural disaster conditions that existed in 2005 and early 2006. These ranged from the hurricane flooding and high winds in the Gulf Region and excessive rainfall in the Upper Great Plains, California and Hawaii, to the drought in the middle portion of the Corn Belt and Southern Great Plains.
