Space Advocates for Lampson Launches Grassroots Campaign

05/25/2006

Houston, TX - Space Advocates for Lampson today held its inaugural meeting. An overflow crowd of 80 people, including Democrats, Republicans and Independents, gathered to discuss the future of NASA.

Congressman Lampson discussed his position on the space program and plans for ensuring NASA receives proper funding, safely and successfully transfers from the shuttle program to the CEV program, and continues its role in ensuring America's leadership position in the world.

"Fighting for NASA will be one of my top priorities when I return to Congress," Lampson said. "NASA has always been at the forefront of technology and innovation, providing incalculable benefits to our nation and the world. We must not cede our leadership role in space because of under-funding. I will lead bi-partisan efforts to ensure that our space programs are fully funded."

The crowd of NASA employees and supporters then participated in a discussion with Lampson about their views and experiences regarding America's space program. Space Advocates for Lampson will work to continue this dialogue with future luncheons and town hall meetings throughout the summer and fall.

Participants left energized and ready to help reach out to more space workers and supporters. Space Advocates for Lampson will work as a grassroots organization to promote the space program and Congressman Lampson's strong record and continued support of NASA.

Lampson represented the Johnson Space Center in Congress from 1997 - 2005. He sponsored the Space Exploration Act of 2002 which was written to establish long-term goals for NASA and our space program. Much of the bill was adopted as policy by the Administration.
