Dr. Coburn's Statement on President's Address on Immigration
U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) released the following statement on President Bush's address to the nation concerning illegal immigration.
"Securing our borders must be the first step Congress takes in combating illegal immigration. I support the President's plan to both increase the number of border patrol agents and use new technologies to help secure the border. I also support the President's plan to use the National Guard on a temporary basis," Dr. Coburn said.
"Our nation can both welcome legal immigrants and respect the rule of law. Tolerating illegal immigration undermines the rule of law and dishonors our rich heritage of legal immigration. I will oppose a temporary worker program until the border is secure."
