LoBIONDO'S REACTION TO BUSH'S IMMIGRATION SPEECH FROM OVAL OFFICE
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) tonight issued the following statement after President Bush's primetime speech from the Oval Office on illegal immigration and border security.
"Tonight, President Bush rightly stated the urgent need to secure our borders as the first step in addressing ongoing illegal immigration. I have long advocated for stricter measures to protect our borders, which have included significant increases in the number of trained and deployed border patrol agents. However, it is clear additional action is desperately needed. To assist in securing the border, I support temporarily mobilizing the National Guard as a support force to current Border Patrol efforts. The short-term, logistical support the National Guard will provide for the Border Patrol will allow the agency to refocus their efforts and strengthen their operations to combat illegal entry and smuggling."
