To Our State Delegates (2)

TO OUR STATE DELEGATES (2)

Since the party caucuses of March 21, I have held 15 meetings with state delegates, county party officers and others. During those meetings, I have met with over 1,000 state delegates. I have enjoyed the meetings very much and have been very impressed with the quality of questions asked and the ideas that have been presented by the delegates. Not only have I had the opportunity to explain my positions on the issues, but I have received from my fellow Republicans new insight and ideas for meeting the challenges we face.

The following is an additional letter which I sent out last week to Republican state delegates:

During the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to meet with many of the newly elected state delegates. Sometimes those meetings have been one on one and sometimes in groups. I have enjoyed listening to the thoughts and ideas of my fellow delegates as well has being able to share my vision of the future. The one thing that continues to impress me, as it always has about delegates, is the knowledge and commitment they have and their desire to make life better and safer in our state and country.

There is no question, we face a number of challenges. We need to solve this immigration mess that our country is in. The first step in doing that is securing our borders. As one delegate put it, "When the tub is overflowing you don't start cleaning up the water on the floor until you get the faucet turned off." I want you to also know that I am opposed to the amnesty contained in the Kennedy-McCain bill that has been before the Senate.

We also need to take advantage of the tremendous energy resources and potential we have here in Utah from oil shale, to geothermal, to coal. As I have said throughout the state, Utah has the potential to be the Saudi Arabia of energy here in the United States with the resources we have available. Now we just need to properly develop those resources while keeping the beauty of our state which I am confident can be done.

I also believe we need to continue to support our President and our troops in the fight against terrorism.

I look forward to discussing these and other issues as I continue meeting with delegates around the state. However, I want to take a moment to personally thank you for your support, especially now in this election campaign. It is your support and your thoughts and ideas that will help us be successful this election year. You know, I really do enjoy this process.

Thank you again for your support and your commitment to our country and our party. I will see you on the campaign trail.

Sincerely,

Orrin G. Hatch
