CONGRESSMAN WU'S SIXTH ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM: ENERGY INDPENDENCE & THE ENVIRONMENT

Portland, Oregon -- Today Congressman David Wu and several local experts addressed innovative ways to meet our nation's long-term energy needs while protecting the environment.
The forum gave Oregonians the chance to learn about various local businesses and organizations committed to conserving energy, protecting our environment, and guiding our country onto a path towards energy independence.

"The best way to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources is to reduce demand for oil in the United States," said Congressman Wu. "We need to look at science and innovative technology to bring renewable energy and alternative fuels to the American people. Businesses and organizations in Oregon are taking the lead in successfully implementing these new technologies and setting an example for the rest of the nation."

The main topics of discussion were increasing use of renewable power, developing alternative fuels such as biodeisel, incentives for green architecture and development and smarter transportation planning to reduce car emissions.

Joining Congressman Wu were Angus Duncan, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Tomas Endicott, SeQuential Biofuels, Clark Brockman, SERA Architects, Dennis Wilde, Gerding/Edlen Development and Rob Bertini, Portland State University.
