5.1 Million Jobs Since August 2003
April 7, 2006

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today that non-farm payroll employment increased by 211,000 jobs in March, and the unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent. More than 2.1 million jobs have been created in the past 12 months - and more than 5.1 million since August 2003. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today applauded Republican economic policies for helping foster a pro-growth, pro-job economic atmosphere.

"As a low-tax, high-growth state, Florida knows first-hand that healthy economies and robust job growth comes with low taxes. Clearly it works for the nation's economy too. Thanks to Republican pro-growth economic policies, the economy has been growing for 17 straight fiscal quarters and has added more than 5.1 million jobs since August 2003. Despite steady positive economic reports, Democrats proposed hiking taxes during budget debate this week which would stop this economic and job growth.

"When U.S. businesses have an economic environment that allows them to grow and prosper, then those businesses will be able to provide good quality jobs for American workers. I am committed to making these policies permanent and give small businesses the opportunities to succeed and grow."
