Crowley Commemorates International Women's Day

Washington DC - Today, in recognition of International Women's Day, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-NY) stressed his commitment to women's health advocacy and global human rights values.

"During the early years of the last century, women around the world rallied and fought for their rights and societal recognition. Today we remember with great appreciation the importance of women's achievements in our society in US as well as the rest of the world," said Crowley, a member of the House International Relations Committee and the Congressional Human Rights Caucus.

"We must also be reminded of our responsibilities to ensure women continue to be treated equally here and receive protection through our foreign policy. I call on the President to reconsider withholding funding of the United Nations Population Fund, which plays a great role in supporting gender rights and women's health in developing nations," Crowley added.
