REP. PASCRELL, MEMBER OF CONGRESSIONAL UKRAINIAN CAUCUS,
APPLAUDS MOVE TO EXPAND ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP WITH UKRAINE

PASCRELL WAS COSPONSOR OF HOUSE PASSED LEGISLATION TO GRANT PNTR

WASHINGTON- In the spirit of building a stronger economic partnership with Ukraine, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson), praised House passage of H.R. 1053, legislation to grant permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) to Ukraine. Pascrell, a cosponsor of the legislation, feels Ukraine has made enough progress for the United States to move away from Cold War era trade restrictions that have limited Ukraine's export based economy.

"Ukraine has made remarkable strides towards further democratizing a very unstable region of the world," stated Pascrell, a member of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus. "It is about time President Yushchenko's work be rewarded, and there is no better way to do so than to welcome Ukraine into the global marketplace."

On April 6, 2005 Pascrell personally welcomed President Viktor Yushchenko to the U.S. Capitol following the Ukrainian leader's speech before a joint session of Congress. In his speech, Yushchenko urged Congress to grant Ukraine permanent normal trade relations.

"I never forgot the sensible appeal that President Yushchenko made last year during his speech before a joint session of Congress to open our trade market to Ukraine," stated Pascrell. "Passage of this legislation represents a rapidly developing relationship between the United States and Ukraine."
