BLACKBURN: VOTES, NOT HAND WRINGING NEEDED TO CUT SPENDING
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) called on House Democrats to support legislation like the Deficit Reduction Act, across-the-board spending cuts, and entitlement reform.
"There are members on the left who don't support their Party leadership, but they're too scared to vote for legislation that would cut into spending," Blackburn said. "If there's a bill on the floor that cuts spending and you vote against it, then you shouldn't be slamming others for the government's fiscal problems. The Democrat members pointing to a Treasury Department report that essentially makes the case for entitlement reform fought tooth and nail to defeat reform. This report validates everything we said several months ago about the need to reform Social Security. Complaining about our problems isn't the same as voting to reduce federal outlays or to reform entitlement programs."
