ENSIGN: TODAY IS A WIN FOR FREE SPEECH AND OUR MILITARY

Senator John Ensign made this statement following a unanimous decision by the United States Supreme Court today that stops law schools and universities across the country from denying free speech to America's military branches. The Court upheld the Solomon Amendment that was approved by Congress in 1994 and was designed to prevent discrimination on college campuses against military recruiters.

"The Supreme Court has stated unequivocally that military recruiters must have equal opportunity to educate students. Free speech is vital on our campuses, and representatives of our military—the very people who fight for our freedoms—deserve the chance to be heard. Today, the First Amendment was protected on behalf of students and on behalf of our military."
