The General Election Begins Today with a Unified Front

DES MOINES, IA - In a sign of Republican unity and strength, gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats announced he is withdrawing from the race for governor and joining Jim Nussle as his running mate. Speaking before crowds in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Sioux City on Wednesday, Nussle and Vander Plaats expressed their excitement in unifying the race for governor, solidifying the Republican ticket for a victory in November, and energizing Iowa's future.

Jim Nussle said, "I am honored and excited to have Bob as part of the team. He is a dedicated Iowan, committed teacher and innovative entrepreneur. He brings to the campaign experience, leadership and passion to achieve more for the hardworking people of Iowa. We share a vision of a stronger Iowa - An Iowa that is the best place to live, learn, work, play and retire.

Bob Vander Plaats said, "I am honored to join Jim as his running mate and share his vision for energizing Iowa's future. My decision to join Jim is the right decision for the Republican Party and the right decision for the future of our state.

Republican Party Chairman Ray Hoffman joined the candidates and spoke about Republican victory in November, "This is a great day for the Iowa Republican Party - the Republican primary race for governor is over, and we come together stronger and more united than ever before in our commitment to win in November."

"I am more confident than ever about what we are going to be able to accomplish. We're going to work harder, mobilize faster and reach out to more people than ever before to ensure a Republican is elected as the next Governor of Iowa," added Vander Plaats.

"The General Election begins today with a unified front that will mean success in November. Together, we strengthen the Republican Party, bolster our grassroots organization and energize our supporters," Nussle concluded.
