Bono Reacts to President Bush's State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "As we embark on a new year, it is clear that there are many challenges and opportunities ahead to improve the standard of living for the American people. I appreciate President Bush's optimistic agenda and I hope that Congress can work together from both sides of the aisle to achieve beneficial policy.

This year, the federal government must focus on bringing fiscal discipline and positive solutions to the American public. I am pleased by the President's active leadership and hope that Congress will continue to make substantial progress in securing a stronger homeland, a fiscally conservative budget, an increase in conservation and alternative energy policies that focus on reducing our dependence on Middle Eastern oil and a more available and efficient health care system. I am especially thrilled to hear the President express his desire for Congress to reauthorize the Ryan White Care Act, for which I have been a consistent advocate and feel needs to be placed on a fast-track for Congressional approval.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress, along with the President and the constituents of the 45th district as we address these important issues."
