Wilson Statement regarding the State of the Union Address
Highlights Math and Science Education Proposals
01/31/06
Washington, D.C.--Congresswoman Heather Wilson today released the following statement regarding President Bush's 2006 State of the Union Address:
"President Bush gave an important speech tonight. A highlight for me was the President's emphasis on math and science education. We need to improve math and science education to prepare young people for the jobs of the 21st Century.
Secondly, I was pleased with the focus on energy development through technology. New Mexico will play a leading role in an initiative to make our nation energy independent. New Mexico will be a leader in everything from solar power and wind energy to next generation nuclear power.
I will have more questions about the President's budget proposals. He talked about ending some programs. I'll consider his ideas on a case-by-case basis. I'll particularly be watching for impact on our veterans."
