WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement on the President's State of the Union Address:
"I stand by the President's continued commitment to fighting terror and keeping the United States the best place in the world to live, work, do business, and raise a family. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to approve common sense legislation that will help sustain the prosperity that we have enjoyed and capitalize on the opportunity to do more for the people of north Alabama.
"I continue to support the President in his commitment to govern within his Constitutional authority but, at the same time, protect the United States from another attack like we witnessed in 2001.
"I was glad to see his continued commitment to lower taxes for the American people and to the need for orderly and secure borders.
"I applaud the President for recognizing our dependence on Middle Eastern oil and that such a dependence must change. Gas prices are too high. We should explore the feasibility of any proposed option to bring prices down. Increasing production, exploration, and refining of existing and new sources of energy will help bring the relief that we need.
"I was encouraged to hear the President state his continued commitment to the protection of life. Furthermore, the government should protect the right to quality health care for the elderly and the poor. It is on the House's agenda to address medical lawsuit abuse, a factor making health care unaffordable to these groups.
"The quality of the workers in the Fourth District is exceptional. I will continue my work to protect the industries that employ these workers. I will also contribute to our future by supporting education programs that will train emerging generations to be even more competitive than our current workforce."
