Congressman Boswell's Statement on the State of the Union Address

2/1/06

"I certainly agree with the President when he spoke of supporting our brave men and women in uniform. Both sides of the aisle support our troops. But the President must do a better job telling the American public how fast the Iraqi Army will be ready to take over, so that our men and women in uniform can return home to their families."

"I do have some concerns with the President's solutions to keep America competitive. Real problems need real solutions, and I don't believe the President grasps the seriousness of the problem that over 40 million Americans have no health insurance. Health savings accounts will do nothing to make health insurance affordable or accessible to those who really need it."

"I'm pleased that the President proposed new initiatives on developing alternative energy. At a time when one of the major oil companies reported a quarterly profit of over $10 billion, and people are paying well over $2.00 a gallon at the gas pump, we need legislation encouraging significant investment in development of alternative energy sources and increased conservation measures. We must free ourselves from the bondage of OPEC."
