Herger, 25 Other California Lawmakers Urge President to Support Governor's Disaster Relief Request
WASHINGTON-Congressman Wally Herger joined Representative Mike Thompson (CA, 1st District) in authoring a letter to President Bush respectfully requesting him to support Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's call for federal disaster relief and emergency assistance for California. A total of twenty-six members of the California congressional delegation signed the letter.
"I strongly support Governor Schwarzenegger's request for federal disaster relief to help communities respond, and restore the areas damaged by the recent flooding in the North State," Herger stated. "In the counties I represent, the widespread flooding caused a tragic fatality, as well as millions of dollars in damage to many homes, businesses, farms, and infrastructure. I respectfully request the Administration to accommodate the governor's call for federal aid, which would greatly assist the people of Northern California as they seek to recover from these serious storms."

The Honorable George W. Bush
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
We respectfully request you support Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's call for federal disaster relief and emergency, assistance in California. A timely federal response will enable the state to help those affected as quickly as possible.
The Governor and state agencies have determined that the recent series of warm Pacific storms that hit California are of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the state and local governments and supplementary federal assistance is necessary. These storms brought heavy rain, high winds, mudslides and flooding which among other things, caused levee breaching, road closures, widespread power outages and unfortunately loss of lives.
Initial damage estimates to California are over $350 million. Federal assistance will help communities repair structures, highways and bridges, remove debris, and help rebuild affected businesses and agriculture.
Thank you for your timely attention to this issue. We stand ready to work with you on getting the federal assistance needed to our state.
