Kildee Secures $400,000 for Bay MTA in Transportation Appropriations Bill for FY06
WASHINGTON - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Bay Metropolitan Transit Authority would receive $400,000 in federal aid to purchase new vehicles. Kildee originally requested these funds from the Appropriation Subcommittee on Transportation in order to meet the demands of regional expansion and increased transit options in Bay City. Kildee's funding request was included in the final Transportation, Treasury, Housing, and Urban wDevelopment Appropriations conference report, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives today with the Congressman's support.
"I am pleased that I was able to secure earmarked funding for new buses in Bay City. This funding will ensure that residents in Bay City will have access to the best public transportation available," said Kildee. "A reliable public transportation system is vital to the economic prosperity and public safety of our area because it provides area residents with better access to facilities and services throughout the district."
The Bay Metropolitan Transportation Authority will use the $400,000 earmark to help purchase 4 new medium sized buses. The new vehicles will provide area residents with a safe, reliable and affordable alternative to individual passenger vehicles. These new buses will help alleviate congestion and increase traffic safety by encouraging commuters to take public transportation.
