Hulshof Opposes Spring Rise
I am very concerned by the recently announced Annual Operating Plan issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
If this plan is ultimately implemented, Missourians who live and work along the Missouri River are faced with the prospect of significant property damage and economic loss associated with spring floods - flooding that will occur solely as the result of improper management of the river.
Those who support a spring rise claim that flooding the lower basin is necessary to protect the pallid sturgeon. This claim has not been backed with sound scientific evidence. What is certain is that the lives and livelihoods of thousands of my constituents who live along the Missouri River will be purposefully placed in jeopardy.
Going forward, I will continue working with various stakeholders and Missouri's elected officials at all levels of government to make our case against this misguided plan.
