President Signs Key Higher Education Bills
October 7, 2005
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Education & the Workforce Committee leaders today applauded enactment of several key bills to extend critical higher education programs, provide student loan flexibility for military personnel, and protect financial aid opportunities for students and schools impacted by the recent hurricanes in the Gulf Coast region.
"By signing these bills, President Bush has ensured students will continue to have access to federal student aid, military personnel will continue to be protected from undue financial burden as they serve our nation, and colleges affected by the hurricanes will have access to critical student aid funds," said Education & the Workforce Committee Chairman John Boehner (R-OH).
"I am pleased the men and women of our National Guard and Reserves who are also students will continue to be protected from education-related financial and administrative burdens when they are called to active duty or active service. These provisions apply whether our men and women are serving in support of ongoing military conflicts abroad or assisting with national disasters here at home. The extension of this legislation - signed into law by the president - reinforces Congress's commitment to our military, our students, and our schools."
