Center for Domestic Preparedness
Should Receive $57 Million

Homeland appropriations bill has record funding for facility

Washington, D.C. - Calhoun County's Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) should receive $57 million for Fiscal Year 2006, a record level of funding for the facility and a $2 million increase over last year's $55 million, Congressman Mike Rogers said today.

"In times of tight budgets, I am thrilled Congress continues to show strong support for this vital homeland security facility," Rogers said. "I am encouraged by the growing support for the CDP here in Congress, and thank Senator Shelby for his ongoing diligence in helping secure these funds."

Rogers said the funding for the CDP is contained in the conference report to H.R. 2360, the Homeland Security Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006. The bill passed late last night 347-70. The $30.8 billion bill provides funding for our nation's first responders, border patrol initiatives, fire grants, and transportation security, to name a few.

Rogers said funding for the CDP has grown steadily from an initial $2 million appropriation in 1998 to its current level of $57 million. The bill also provides funding for 1,000 new border patrol agents, and $5 million to help train State and local law enforcement officials to enforce immigration laws.

Rogers is Chairman of the Homeland Security subcommittee on Management, Integration and Oversight.
