CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON COMMENTS ON THE PRESIDENT'S NEW SUPREME COURT NOMINEE
October 3, 2005

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today issued the following statement in regards to President Bush's nomination of Harriet Miers to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"I have known Harriet Miers for many years. A fellow Texan and Dallas resident, Harriet Miers is an outstanding woman with a great legal mind. I commend the President for nominating her."

"For Years, Justice O'Connor was the deciding vote protecting individual rights and freedoms on a narrowly divided court. If confirmed, it is my hope that Miers will demonstrate that she shares the commitment to protecting the individual rights and freedoms that Justice O'Connor so often cast the deciding vote to defend."
