Gingrey votes to uphold the Pledge
Resolution asserts that pledging allegiance to our flag is constitutional

Washington, Sep 29 - U.S. Congressman Phil Gingrey today voted to pass H.Con.Res. 245, a resolution of Congress encouraging the U.S. Supreme Court to bring uniformity to conflicting lower court rulings on the constitutionality of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. The resolution expresses the sense of Congress that the Pledge is both important and constitutional. Gingrey co-sponsored this resolution.

"I am aghast that activist judges are attacking one of our most patriotic traditions: reciting the Pledge of Allegiance," said Gingrey. "It is absurd to think that our children should be barred from starting their morning by honoring our flag and the history and values it represents. I hope the Supreme Court will quickly overturn the activist and quite frankly ridiculous ruling of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals."

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by school children is unconstitutional. This conflicts with a previous ruling by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals that upholds the constitutionality of the Pledge of Allegiance.
