Barrow Announces Abstinence Education Grant
September 30, 2005
Augusta, GA - 12th District Congressman John Barrow announced today that "Choose Success", a teen pregnancy prevention program run by Communities in Schools of Augusta-Richmond County inc, will be receiving a grant of $405,978 to fund the program for the next year. Communities in Schools will administer this grant in partnership with the Medical College of Georgia.
"This is a very important program designed to prevent teen pregnancy, and other high risk behaviors, and make sure that our kids in the Augusta area have every opportunity to be successful," John Barrow said. "While we need to make sure that kids have the information they need to make wise choices, I think everyone can agree that Abstinence is the most effective way to prevent teen pregnancy," Barrow continued.
"Choose Success operates on the principle that the surest way to prevent teen pregnancy is through abstinence, that's why we take a community based approach to education and to promoting abstinence," Communities in Schools of Augusta-Richmond County, Inc Executive Director Mary Crawford said. "This grant will allow us to fund Choose Success for another year, and allow us to continue serving the whole Augusta area," Crawford continued.
