Senator Johnson Sends Computers to Axtell Middle School

Sioux Falls To Receive Five Computers

Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today announced that five computers have been sent to Axtell Middle School through the U.S. Senate's Computers for Schools Program. Johnson was able to send twenty-five computers to five public schools in South Dakota through the program.

"Computers are important tools for education. I'm pleased to know that the students of Axtell Middle School will have these computers at their disposal to get the best education that they can," said Johnson.

The United States Senate, in coordination with the Computers for Schools Program, helps public schools take advantage of the information technology age by channeling surplus computers into classrooms across the country. By seniority, Senate offices receive an allocation of twenty-five computers to donate.

A maximum of five different schools may be selected to receive computers. Senator Johnson also sent five computers each to the following schools: Irene High School; the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School in Eagle Butte; the Tiospaye Topa School in Ridgeview; and the Highmore School in Highmore.

The Senate Sergeant at Arms, in coordination with UPS, will provide shipping of the computers to the selected schools.

"Rather than waste these surplus computers, I know that our schools can put them to good use. This is a great program and I'm glad to help out Axtell Middle School," concluded Johnson.

All registered public schools in South Dakota are eligible to sign-up for the Computers for Schools Program on their own and may do so by going to the following web site: http://www.computers.fed.gov.
