Rep. Pitts: "it is Immoral to Use this Tragedy as an Excuse to Pile More Debt Onto Future Generations"
September 21, 2005
Washington-Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) today announced his intention to support efforts to find savings in other areas of the budget rather than issuing more federal debt to fund Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
"A successful plan to rebuild the region devastated by Hurricane Katrina," said Congressman Pitts this morning, "will target specific needs, help actual victims, rely heavily on and promote private investment, reform federal disaster response, and, most importantly, avoid further federal debt. We can find ways to pay for this effort from other areas of the budget, without going further into the red. It is immoral to use this tragedy as an excuse to pile more debt onto future generations when we have the resources to pay for it today."
