REP. PASCRELL STATEMENT ON KING TO CHAIR HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE
September 15, 2005

PASCRELL AND KING SERVED AS LEADERS OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS SUBCOMMITTEE

WASHINGTON- U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ-08) Ranking Democratic Member of the Emergency Preparedness, Science and Technology Subcommittee within the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement today regarding Rep. Peter King's (R-NY-03) ascension to Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.

"I applaud the selection of Peter King to chair the House Homeland Security Committee. I have worked closely with Congressman King leading the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Science and Technology, and am fully confident that he is the best man for the job.

"Congressman King has always looked over partisan boundaries to put security first. He has the respect of our first responder community, and has a strong working relationship with foreign security leaders in some of the most unstable regions of the world.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Congressman King understands the threats that confront America, especially those in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. This committee is in its first permanent term, it is critical that we have a leader who will put politics aside and focus on securing America."
