CHAMBLISS REFELCTS ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R- Ga., today released the following statement relative to the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001.

"As we approach the fourth Anniversary of the tragic terror attacks on September 11, 2001, it's important we remember those who fell victim to the terrorists and continue to offer prayers and support to their families. Our resolve to track down those responsible has not waned and we will continue to take all means necessary to fight and win the war on terrorism.

"Four years later, as we continue to fight and win the war on terrorism, we are hunting down the terrorists one by one, and we are going to make sure that at the end of the day our children and our grandchildren are able to enjoy the same safe and secure America that we have all enjoyed.

"As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I am pleased that Congress and President Bush created the new Department of Homeland Security, directed significant resources to our military, intelligence community, and America's first responders to help fight and win the war. We've also taken steps to significantly improve our nation's intelligence community through measures such as creating a Director of National Intelligence, establishing the National Counterterrorism Center, enhancing information sharing and strengthening our human intelligence gathering abilities.

"There is no question that we are safer today than we were prior to September eleventh. Our law enforcement community is better equipped; they are better trained, and they are getting better intelligence than ever before. Our intelligence community, both domestically and internationally, is doing a much better job of gathering, interpreting and disseminating intelligence on a day to day basis. That's been critical as we fight and win the war on terrorism because we have been able to interrupt and disrupt potential acts of terrorism occurring in the United States as well as against American assets abroad.

"Our American soldiers and members of the National Guard and Reserve and their families are being called on like never before. Through numerous visits at our Georgia bases and around the world, in places like, Iraq and Afghanistan, I have seen firsthand the outstanding job these hardworking men and women are doing. It's so encouraging to know that our troops know the jobs they are doing are being done for the right reason - which is to ensure a safe and secure America for future generations.

"So, on this important day of reflection in our country's history, let us pause to remember those who lost their lives in this senseless attack, pray for their families and loved ones, and stand firm in our resolve to rid our world of terrorism once and for all."
