BRAC Commission Saves Red River
August 24, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. ..."The BRAC Commission's decision regarding Red River Army Depot is a huge victory and a vindication of the important work that Red River is doing in support of the war effort. Local officials and citizens, along with the Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma delegations, worked hard to make the case that Red River is vital to our Defense infrastructure and to the economic viability of the region.

This was my top priority as the new Representative of this area. I commend Chairman Principi and the Commission for taking the time to look closely at the data on Red River and for exercising their independent judgment. I am especially grateful to the Chairman and the Commissioners who personally visited Red River.

"I am enormously pleased that more than 90 percent of the jobs at Red River will remain secure. We hate to lose any jobs, but considering the fact that potentially 4,500 jobs could have been lost due to closure, I consider this a great victory."
