Senator Santorum Highlights Benefits of Pennsylvania Military Installations at BRAC Meeting

U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today attended a meeting at the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell joined Senator Santorum at today's meeting to highlight the importance of maintaining Pennsylvania military installations.

During today's meeting, arguments were made on behalf of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NASJRB) Willow Grove and the Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station (911th Airlift Wing), Charles E. Kelly Support Facility, and the 99th Regional Readiness Command in Pittsburgh, which were included on DoD's list of recommendations to the BRAC commission for closure or realignment issued on May 13, 2005. Advocates for each of the military installations reiterated the importance of keeping open both the NASJRB Willow Grove and the Pittsburgh installations, as well as presented new information on the economic impact of closing the bases.

"I have been working hard to defend our bases in Pennsylvania. I appreciate the opportunity to meet with BRAC staff members and Governor Rendell. I am hopeful that the BRAC Commission takes into consideration all of the information presented to them at today's meeting and we receive positive results from our bipartisan efforts," said Senator Santorum.
