Energy Bill Passes With Thornberry's Support
July 28, 2005

Washington D.C.- The most extensive energy bill approved by Congress in years passed the U.S. House of Representatives today. H.R. 6, the "Energy Policy Act of 2005," was approved by the House by a vote of 275-156.

U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (TX-13), who has pushed for the adoption of a national energy strategy throughout his time in Congress, voted in favor of H.R. 6. However, he warned that, "The high energy prices we are all frustrated by right now will not come down immediately because of this or any other individual bill."

"Because we have failed to enact sound energy policy for so many years, our nation has become increasingly dependent on foreign energy sources. It will take some time to overcome this problem. But, I believe H.R. 6 will do a lot to help us become more self-reliant," said Thornberry.
