Senator Lankford Statement on Revised Immigration Executive Order

Statement

Date: March 6, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Senator James Lankford today released a statement in response to President Trump's revised travel Executive Order.

"It is appropriate for an incoming Administration to review the policies and practices of a previous Administration. This revised travel Executive Order should provide clarity and direction for DHS, TSA, transportation companies, and embassies as they comply with the order. After a full and thorough evaluation of the immigration vetting processes is completed, I look forward to working with the Administration to make any necessary improvements so that we may continue welcoming refugees and legal immigrants. Our nation should always be open to people seeking refuge from oppression, religious persecution, and genocide, but we must welcome victims in a way that does not threaten the safety of this nation."

The White House initially released a similar Executive Order on January 27. On February 9, a federal court struck down the order. Senator Lankford reacted to that Court ruling live on CNN.
