Grassley Welcomes President's Announcement of Trade Enforcement Measures

Statement

Date: March 31, 2017

Sen. Chuck Grassley, a senior member and former chairman of the Finance Committee and a member of the Agriculture Committee, made the following comment on President Trump's announcement of two executive orders on trade. One order directs an analysis of the causes of U.S. trade deficits by country with the goal of enforcing disallowed practices. The second order directs the improved collection of antidumping and countervailing duties at the border.

"The Administration is right to focus on trade enforcement. The United States works to uphold its trade commitments. U.S. trading partners have to be held to account for meeting their end of the bargain. Anti-dumping cases and countervailing duties are two of the remedies at U.S. disposal. The United States should make good use of them. Iowa farmers, manufacturers and services providers can compete anywhere in the world when there's a level playing field."
